Hey Matt. :) I was getting some coffee sorry. I see two Non-Prophets stream on shoutcast, one of them is playing nothing, the other is playing "Yes" Is that the correct stream? yes It should now be playing Curve - Ten Little Girls I'm not sure what the other one is...but I show 2 connections to our current stream. One is me, I'm betting you're the other Yeah, I've got Curve now. ok...it's a little louder than I expect the show to be, evidently this MP3 was one I ripped amplified AFK for a few, I need to stand outside and direct the guys to the "studio" ;) Alright. The stream shouldn't stop...but we're going to silence in about 10 minutes Ok, full cast and crew in attendance. We'll go silent in moment and start with the music at 2 minutes before the hour Ready to go here. Ok, it shows you connecting, starting the music in a sec.... Switching over now. Done, broadcasting. Great! (Non-Prophets)' Perfect timing, except for the topic change, that is. ;) * Dave63 has joined #nonprophets --- Welcome to the Non-Prophets chat, at irc.wikkedwire.com! Feel free to chime in with opinions, corrections, commentary or questions!---- I seem to remember that the Jewish "heaven" was the memory of a person living on in their loved ones, never heard a Catholic bring that up before. It's sort of neo-Platonic. It's not really "new", but he argued that he's in favor of "revising" the perception of an afterlife. The Jewish position on an afterlife is ambiguous - even to Jews. :) ah, i see Unless a memory of me pops out of someone's head and starts breathing, then it can't really be me :) Anyone ever read that Harlan Ellison short story "Hitler Painted Roses", where you go to heaven or hell based on people's popular opinion of you? I haven't heard that The main story is like this: a doctor who's well-loved by his town kills his cheating wife in a fit of rage, and then commits suicide. When the town finds the bodies, they blame an innocent maid because the doctor just couldn't do it. The doctor goes to heaven, the maid goes to hell. Crazy story, and there's more to it, but that's the gist. Aaaah, jeez that's a frustrating argument! heh For those who aren't aware, you get the show on a 2 minute delay from reality. We love interacting with the audience, but we might not always "mesh" in the space-time sense. ;) At my last job, I had an argument with my boss (bad idea) about heaven and hell. He emphatically claimed that he was definitely NOT GOING TO HELL. I said, "That's absolutely correct". Ha! What did he say to that? He laughed, fortunately. I went to a Catholic college, and when choosing classes for the upcoming semester an ultra-conservative Catholic acquaintance of mine suggested I take a "Christian Morality" class. I asked him why, and instead of saying the professor was good, or it was a decent class, he told me "Your morality is wrong." LOL Yup, I really had to contain the rage at that point! My nephew goes to a Catholic school, and they're teaching him evolution! I told him to ask the teacher how he reconciles Genesis with evolution. I was honestly curious. But my nephew said he was afraid to ask such a question. * paulw has joined #nonprophets I would also like to know how they reconcile that. My roommate at the Catholic college was a biology major, so clearly there was no problem with belief/science in his mind, but I still wonder how they can mesh those concepts. Hiya Paul heya So where is everyone from? <--Austin ;) I'm in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Some crazy stuff going on in this state lately (Dover, PA, etc.) Northern Minnesota, but recently moved to Norfolk, VA We had someone write us from England last week, after listening to a recording of the TV show. We're officially international. I lived in Norfolk for nearly 8 years (USN) Cool, that's actually why I'm here now. * mary027 has joined #nonprophets * mary027 has left #nonprophets * chatman001 has joined #nonprophets very quiet here :) Graduated, recieved my commission, then had to spent 3 months in the Arabian Gulf :( --- Welcome to the Non-Prophets chat, at irc.wikkedwire.com! I've been listening for about a year, but this is the first time I've caught a live show (cause of my less-than-perfect connection) Wasn't sure if today was a repeat--because we've talked about gods interfering with chemistry experiments before. I take it we are live .. good. Yup, live. I think its live Live today (5th) and again on the 19th.... god needs glasses? With regard to scientists who are religious, I've worked with really sharp engineers who are religious. But when they start talking about religion, it's like they have to "flip a switch" in their heads. Then they go back to being great engineers. Very bizarre. I found out about the Non-Prophets because they used to be on the Atheist Radio Network, which used to have the Infidel Guy show. The Infidel Guy show is another got atheist audio show: http://www.infidelguy.com/ Yeah, we love Reggie :) The radio feed is currently down, BUT the message board is as active as ever: http://www.atheistnetwork.com/ ... OK, I've heard of the I.D. case Ok, one note don't say "the radio feed is currently down" - while we're live. I had to scramble to make sure you were talking about Infidel Guy and not us. :) j/k But I love the Non-Prophets... Also you should check out that Atheist-Experience. Both are put on by the Atheist Community of Austin (Texas)... To bad I don't live in Austin... Or, America. LOL! Check out the Atheist Experience over at http://www.atheist-community.org/ haha! sorry :) Indefual, you're from Canada, right? yup Which province? I'm from Minnesota myself, right by Thunder Bay. http://www.atheist-experience.com/ - you can download the audio from the TV show (though the information on that page about hosts is a bit out of date) I was in Thunder Bay this summer for a wedding. I am from Ontario. I currently live north of Toronto. I would LOVE to have the Atheist Experience LIVE up here in PA. I do listen to the archives as soon as they're available. Non-Prophets: Yeah, that info is dated. Should be updated! And the download link doesn't work. You have to go to something like information or something to get the shows. I haven't been up north in a while, but I have fond memories of Canada: Royal Terrell museum, the Sleeping Giant, driving through Alberta & Saskatchewan But I like that they are in OGG format! :) Ogg is cool; don't understand why more people don't use it since it's open-source We're looking into the possbility of re-broadcasting the TV show to a broader audience - though we haven't decided how, when or if...but maybe if you pray, really hard. ;) I'm planning to go out west soon, but I haven't been to those provinces. I've also not been to (or even heard of) the Royal Terrel Museum? I think it's in Alberta Ah in Drumheller It's a paleontology museum, so I guess it's relevant to creationism/evolution discussions That friend of mine who got married in Thunder Bay no lives over in Calgary. Hope to see her soon. Ahh, neat. Might have to check it out. Calgary is nice too, many beautiful cities in Canada * chatman001 rings the bell Non-Prophets: you website administrator for the atheist-community.org is doing a good job. Lots of good information. To bad it's mostly useless for me, being 2 700 KM away... (about 1 500 miles, I think... As a rough estimate) :) sorry I was playing with the controls np Are there many Atheist groups in Ontario? No. So far as I can tell, Humanism is the closest I can get. There may be some in Toronto. But I haven't checked. Non-religious people are about 15% of Canadians, and the second largest "religious" group in Canada. Most Canadians don't attend church... Atheist groups may not be as needed. But if there were one in my area, I would join. Non-religious people are also the fastest growing group in Canada... But I think that's true in the US too. * wabes2k has joined #nonprophets I can't speak to the growth rate of Atheism, but we're still definitely a minority. Good afternoon! Welcome, wabes2k! Hiya Wabes Hey :) waz up OK too many beer ads Non-Prophets: I don't know who is monitoring the chat room, but send my congratulations to Russell who has made it past the first step to become a grad student! Will do :) He says "Thanks!" absolutely, i agree.. but, it would clearly be an evil god if god was as discribed by religion either evil or bi-polar, ever read the Onion article on that? the loud guy hit the nail on the head no.. do you remember when that article was? i'll find it thnx! its all about money http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28484 religious people lie, not suprised if you search "god" on the Onion's site, they have a ton of other funny articles religious presidents lie that's a good article.. like a rainbow after a destructive tornado.. the rainbow being a promise not to destroy the world by flood :) it must be in the programming i'll look those up I peeked at the Onion article. I cracked up just from reading the title. lol, good stuff ooh, i heard about this! lol and he touched the mike anyway what a dumbass LMAO-- that's right amen! Oh, is THAT why I'm listening? couldn't he get the alter boy to hold the mike I thought it was because I liked the show. Go figure. ;) The reason you listen is irrelevant - the only thing that matters is that you listen, and invite others to listen also! ;) It'd be like if I went around saying Aesop's Fables were the absolute truth, and that a mouse REALLY REALLY did pull a thorn from a lion's paw the damned stupid holliday xmas mom would never listen, but I am trying my best to get her to come with me to my humanist meeting tomorrow I guess I'm on a longer delay than others. I notice comments being posted about things I haven't heard yet. oh lordy, every winter the same old whining starts up OH, its from FOX so it must be true HAHA yup, "fair and balanced" indeed haha!! consumer goods made in China hilarious! * * * I love it already! mormans magic underware what in the world is an "entertainment unit"? Nothing like that in the Navy that's the fun part! why not get the government out of the marrage business altogether because it is needed to make insurance companies and the like observe marriages among other reasons The government never was in the marriage business! ?? nuke the insurance companies George and Martha Washington didn't have a marriage license. then what is a marrage lic all about Dave? marriage used to be two tribes of cave men completing a treaty, so it basically started as a "civil union" Oh I see ooo.. cave men can be hot Marriage licenses were originally created to regulate marriages between blacks and whites. if they look like brendon frazier lol ah, encino man rules! or a man and several women a man and his harem now there is an idea that's right, jeff!! think about the lack of logic hard enough and you'll get a nosebleed oh yes, heard this one did they call the fire dept to get him out no doubt! i can't tell you how much i enjoy working with my conservative female coworkers and trying to refute the types of arguments presented here nice to chat with you all! you too, echo! so thats it have a good weekend everyone! see ya in 2 weeks will do * EchoPlex has left #nonprophets Thanks everyone!
